Discover Ege Sushi & Japanese Cuisine

Walking into Ege Sushi & Japanese Cuisine feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that quietly knows it’s doing something right. Located at 2100 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30062, United States, this diner-style Japanese restaurant blends casual comfort with the kind of attention to detail you usually only notice after a few visits. I first stopped by on a busy Friday night, expecting a long wait and rushed service, but what stood out immediately was how smoothly everything flowed, from seating to ordering to the final plate hitting the table.

The menu leans confidently into Japanese staples without overwhelming diners. You’ll see familiar sushi rolls, sashimi, hibachi plates, and warm comfort dishes like ramen and udon. What makes the difference is how fresh everything tastes. According to data from the National Fisheries Institute, over 90 percent of seafood consumed in the U.S. is imported, making sourcing and handling critical. Here, the fish texture and clean flavor suggest careful supplier selection and proper storage, which aligns with FDA seafood handling guidelines. You can actually taste the difference in something as simple as a salmon nigiri-clean, buttery, and never fishy.

One thing I appreciated was watching the sushi chefs work behind the counter. Their process is efficient but deliberate: rice is pressed lightly, not packed; knives are wiped between cuts; rolls are assembled with balance instead of excess. A chef once explained to me that properly seasoned sushi rice should cool to body temperature before use, a technique also recommended by culinary institutions like the Culinary Institute of America. That attention shows up here, especially in signature rolls where the rice never overpowers the fish.

The cooked dishes deserve just as much attention. The hibachi menu is popular for a reason. Chicken stays juicy, shrimp snaps with freshness, and vegetables keep a slight crunch instead of turning mushy. Portion sizes are generous, which explains why many local reviews mention taking leftovers home. On review platforms like Yelp and Google Reviews, customers consistently point out value for money and reliable quality, two things that keep regulars coming back.

Service plays a big role in the overall experience. Servers are relaxed, friendly, and genuinely helpful when questions come up about the menu. When I asked for a recommendation that wasn’t too heavy, the server suggested a simple roll paired with miso soup, explaining how the flavors balance each other. That kind of guidance shows familiarity with the food rather than scripted upselling. It reminds me of what hospitality expert Danny Meyer often emphasizes: great dining is about making guests feel taken care of, not just fed.

The atmosphere stays casual and welcoming, making it easy to come in for a quick lunch or settle down for a longer dinner. Families, couples, and solo diners all seem equally at home. The dining room stays clean, tables turn over efficiently, and noise levels never get overwhelming. While it’s not a flashy destination restaurant, that’s part of its charm. It’s dependable, approachable, and consistent.

There are a few limitations worth noting. During peak hours, especially weekends, wait times can stretch longer than expected, and parking can feel tight. Also, while the menu covers a wide range, diners looking for extremely traditional or rare Japanese regional dishes might find the selection more familiar than adventurous. Still, for a neighborhood sushi and Japanese cuisine spot, that balance works in its favor.

Local food culture thrives on places like this-restaurants that earn trust through repetition rather than hype. With steady reviews, careful preparation, and a menu that respects both newcomers and seasoned sushi fans, this spot holds its own in Marietta’s dining scene. Every visit feels consistent, which, according to consumer trust studies published by the Harvard Business Review, is one of the strongest drivers of repeat dining behavior.

  • This place is a legit sushi restaurant - as in, Japanese ex-pats eat here. The owners prepare and serve and they are kind and courteous. Don't expect frills - just great food.

  • The sashimi was great. The rice in the rolls we ordered was a bit soggy. The place is small. I felt like I was sitting on the other patrons. They were really busy and understaffed. Overall, a good experience would go again.

  • The place was fantastic and the sushi was absolutely delicious. It's a small place and it's busy. The service is obviously dictated by how busy it is as they have a small staff that carries deeply about the quality of their food. I will go back here anytime I want sushi and the Japanese dishes were delicious as well. The service was prompt, the restaurant was clean, the food was delicious and I found my new go to place for sushi that won't break the bank.

  • THE best sushi. It's so good, it'll ruin all other sushi for you because you'll be constantly comparing it to Ege, and saying "It's not ege..." It's so worth it. Go here, you will not be disappointed. 20 years later and it's still the best sushi I've ever had. My favorite is the smoked salmon and the salmon skin salad. Sushi A is my go to. If you want something hot, they have katsu and lots of options

  • Ask around for authentic sushi and you’ll hear this name again and again. This tiny neighborhood gem is open for dining after COVID. The fish is well-cut and fresh, the rice well-seasoned, and the sushi well assembled. Customer service and ambience is friendly and comfortable. Note that they don’t serve all the “special rolls” that a lot of places do - simple rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. They do have a generous and varied menu of appetizers, small plates, and entrees that range from salmon to squid and cooked in authentically Japanese fashion. Enjoy!!
